VILLA GERA VINEYARD – CONEGLIANO
18 September 2025Bottega has leased the Villa Gera vineyard in Conegliano.
This historic vineyard is located in the heart of Conegliano, just below the ancient Villa Gera, on the hill where the charming castle stands.
In addition to its extraordinary geographical location, this plot is home to old vines, predating the clonal selection of the last 30 years, characterized by the prevalence of high-yielding clones over those resistant to vine diseases.
In the Villa Gera vineyard, which dates back to 1901, we are now mapping Glera grape clones. Our agronomists, together with leading experts from Rauscedo (the world’s largest nursery for the production of vine cuttings), are selecting the clones being mapped to verify their potential.
The new Glera grape cluster will be characterized by a sort of perfect, prominent, and healthy “ear,” which will highlight its uniqueness and will most likely yield the best part of the fruit. In a few years, we hope to have a new generation of grapes with these selective characteristics that will make our wines even more unique.
